Introduction to dispensing practice and stock control

A short course accredited by the GPhC as meeting the minimum training requirements for people who only put stock away in the dispensary1.

Who is this course suitable for?

Medicine counter assistants or dispensary staff who put stock away in the dispensary but have no involvement in any other dispensary process.

This short course forms the first part of the Accredited Dispensary Assistants Course (ADAC), so students can continue on to ADAC after completing this course.

What does this course contain?

The workbook covers:

  • Providing a good service to customers
  • SOPs - taking in and issuing prescriptions
  • Working as part of a team
  • The dispensary
  • Health and safety
  • Stock control and ordering

How will I be assessed?

The assessments include:

  • Evidence gathering activities - adding pieces of evidence to the workbook
  • Written activities - questions
  • Scenarios - describing how some situations are handled

The whole workbook must be completed and sent to your allocated external NPA tutor who will give you a grade and provide feedback on the quality of your work. 

How long will it take to complete the course?

The estimated study time to complete this course is 20 hours.  This can be divided to suit you and your supervising pharmacist in your individual working environment.

Do I get a certificate of completion?

Yes.
