This course is accredited by the GPhC as providing the essential knowledge required to work in a pharmacy as a Medicines Counter Assistant.
Who is this course suitable for?
All medicine counter staff, full or part time, Saturday and evening staff over the age of 16.
What does this course contain?
The Interact course consists of two parts, Part A containing 6 chapters and Part B containing 5 chapters. The Part A and B booklets are sent out together for you to work through at your own pace.
The course covers the following:
- Introduction to working in a pharmacy• Pharmacy laws relating to selling medicines
- WWHAM questioning
- How to receive prescriptions and issue dispensed items
- Customer service skills
- Team work
- Health & safety at work
- NHS community pharmacy contract
The course also covers various minor ailment topics:
- Pain
- Cough, Colds and Hay Fever
- Indigestion, Heartburn and Constipation
- Women’s Health, Child Health and Family Planning
- Holiday Healthcare and First Aid
- Skin and Feet
- Mouth, Eyes and Ears
- Healthy Living, Natural Remedies, Vitamins and Minerals
- Pet Medicines
How will I be assessed?
You will be tested by a range of methods:
- Multiple choice questions at the end of each module
- Activities to do in the pharmacy
- 50 assessment multiple choice questions after module 5 and module 10
The assessment multiple choice questions will be independently assessed by the NPA. The NPA reserve the right to request randomly selected students’ course work to ensure you have completed the activities and multiple choice questions in each module.
