The media are always looking for human interest stories.  Perhaps you and your team have helped a patient give up smoking, lose weight, to understand why its so important to take their medicines or even get treated for chlamydia!

Holding special events can be effective in attracting customers and also in getting across information about the range of services that are available from local pharmacy.  A 'QUIT SMOKING' evening can offer customers advice on giving up the habit, a 'HEALTHY HEART' event could include demonstrations of blood pressure monitoring and cholesterol measuring.  You could consider inviting other health professionals, e.g. GP's, dentists or practice nurses to talk about specific issues.

 

Media Support

 

Customers are often unaware of the wide range of services that community pharmacy can offer - a range that is likely to increase as the Government seeks to widen the role of pharmacists in the NHS.  With the help of our local spokespeople, we are working to promote pharmacy in general, but there are also opportunities for you to keep your business in the local public eye.

There are a number of ways of generating coverage for yourself or your pharmacy:

  • Official opening of a new pharmacy
  • Relocation or refit
  • Anniversary, e.g. 25 years of service or other company 'landmarks'
  • Staff news - training awards etc
  • Sponsorship initiatives, e.g. sponsoring a school's summer fete brochure or donating funds to a local cause
  • New services now available
  • Taking part in local campaigns
  • Topics focussing on awareness events such as:  No Smoking Day, Ask Your Pharmacist Week, Men's Health Week or National Osteoporosis Month etc
  • Visit from a local dignitary - MP, local councillor, Mayor.
  • Events such as an open evening, a 'how to stop smoking' session etc
