The NPA is committed to helping members to have services commissioned by the NHS.
Recently the NPA has developed a central contracting model to assist some of its members in London to secure a Chlamydia Screening & Treatment service. This has been done in collaboration with the Local Pharmaceutical Committees in the area.
If you or your LPC requires a central contracting model to support NHS commissioning please email businessdevelopment@npa.co.uk.
NHS Hammersmith & Fulham, NHS Kensington & Chelsea and NHS Westminster have commissioned a chlamydia testing and treatment service from community pharmacy (free service for 16 to 24 year olds). The NPA is acting as lead provider in this initiative and has worked with the Local Pharmaceutical Committees to secure the opportunity.
NHS Hammersmith &Fulham, NHS Kensington & Chelsea, NHS Westminster have come together to encourage sexually active young people to maintain their sexual health and get screened for chlamydia. Chlamydia is the fastest growing STI amongst under 25s and research from the National Chlamydia Screening programme shows that one in ten young people who are tested for chlamydia, have it.
To create awareness of the serious consequences of chlamydia, and the ease of getting tested and treated through participating pharmacies, GPs and core contraceptive services, the three PCTs are launching a joint integrated communications campaign. The campaign, 'MAYbe Month' will involve media stories, posters, flyers and online activity running throughout the month.
Ashfaq Khan, Community Pharmacy Link Pharmacist – NHS Hammersmith and Fulham, said: “The campaign provides a great opportunity to promote the new pharmacy based Chlamydia screening and treatment service. Community pharmacies will receive posters and postcards to be displayed in the pharmacy and T-Shirts for staff to wear throughout the month.”
