Andrew Lansley visits pharmacy in Cambridgeshire constituency

Rt Hon Andrew Lansley MP today visited a newly opened community pharmacy in his Cambridgeshire constituency.

Bassingbourn Pharmacy, at High Street Bassingbourn near Cambridge, opened eight months ago, and offers a range of NHS and non-NHS services, including health checks and medicines use reviews.

Mr Lansley said:

“I am pleased to be visiting a new community pharmacy in my constituency.  Community pharmacies play a vitally important role at the heart of communities and on the health service front line.  I want to see pharmacies expanding their role in optimising medicines use and public health, working in partnership with GPs and other healthcare professionals.”

Anil Sharma, pharmacist and owner of Bassingbourn Pharmacy, said:

“I am delighted that Mr Lansley is here to see for himself the crucial role that pharmacies play in promoting good health and delivering vital NHS services close to where people live, work and shop.”

Rita Bali, Executive Development Officer of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Pharmaceutical Committee, said:

“The LPC welcomes Mr Lansley’s interest in the work of pharmacies in his constituency.”

Mike Holden, NPA chief executive said:

“I was able to have some valuable time with Mr Lansley during his constituency visit today.  We agree that community pharmacy already has a key role in the provision of health and wellbeing services and the potential to do significantly more”.
