NPA proud to support first Scottish Pharmacist Awards

05 Mar 2010

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) supported the Innovation and Change category at the first ever Scottish Pharmacist Awards on Saturday 27 February 2010.

Stirling Royal Infirmary, NHS Forth Valley, won the Innovation and Change category at the inaugural award ceremony.

The hospital’s pharmacy team worked closely over 2008/9 to refine and introduce a locally developed electronic discharge system, helping to promote better links with primary care and to ensure better medicines compliance. The system now enables a process of medicines reconciliation on admission, documented patient history for all acute admissions, ward based assessment and improved communication with GPs and community pharmacists upon discharge.

Janice Oman, NPA Pharmacy Services Implementation Manager Scotland said: “Scotland is leading the way for innovating pharmacy health services and the NPA was delighted to support this important category. The high standard of entries in the first year of the Scottish Pharmacist Awards demonstrates the great work already being done by pharmacists throughout Scotland. We look forward to next year’s awards.”
