About the Association
|
Staff from all departments of the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) will be at this year’s Pharmacy Show to answer members’ queries and to explain the range of services and resources from the NPA that can help their pharmacy business. The Pharmacy Show is from Sunday 10 October to Monday 11 October at NEC Birmingham. The NPA’s stand is B50 and is just inside the main show entrance.

A new survey by the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has found poor understanding of the sexually transmitted infection chlamydia among the general public, days after Health Protection Agency figures showed a rise in infections in 2009. With a third of people too embarrassed to seek a test, the NPA is promoting the practical, confidential and discrete option of picking up a test kit from a community pharmacy.

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has announced an additional six member events around the United Kingdom in 2010. The member event programme brings NPA staff face to face with members to talk through the expertise and resources available, answer member questions and gather feedback to improve member customer service.

NPA to provide free meningitis vaccination training for members on the flu vaccination course

The NPA is to provide meningitis vaccination training at no extra cost to members that sign up to the NPA’s flu vaccination training course in September 2010. The NPA is working with The Health Station to allow members to provide meningitis and flu vaccinations through its own Patient Group Directions (PGDs).

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) has responded to the new NHS prescribing recommendations which have been published as part of a Government drive to achieve £20 billion savings in the health service by 2013. The National Prescribing Centre guidance, Key Therapeutic Topics 2010/11, asks GPs to revise prescribing ‘in the context of a challenging medium term financial position.’

The NPA has responded to the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) consultation on setting fees. The NPA believes that setting the fees needs to be an open and transparent process which ensures fees are fair to registrants and enable the GPhC to carry out its functions.

The National Pharmacy Association (NPA) is pleased by Friday’s (30 July 2010) decision from the MHRA to keep pseudoephedrine a P medicine. The announcement repeats last year’s decision to keep the medicine in the category. The NPA has no doubt that community pharmacies will continue to ensure pseudoephedrine is sold in line with MHRA guidance.

The NPA is concerned about the amount of time and effort which will be spent by the GPhC in revisiting the standards several times and organisations who respond to consultations and scrutinise numerous versions of the standards.
