There has been a recent report of a human death associated with rabies in Bali, Indonesia, following a bite from an infected dog. Bali has previously remained a rabies free area, however since December 2008 several cases of rabies in dogs have been reported in the southern districts of Bandung and Denpasar.

Cases of Japanese encephalitis in North India

An acute outbreak of encephalitis syndrome has recently been reported by officials in the Northern state of India, Uttar Pradesh. Other northern Indian states of Assam and Nagaland have also reported cases of acute encephalitis syndrome. Japanese encephalitis is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes.
