Calculating Additional Costs Relating to Coronavirus – Important Survey

01 Apr 2020

Governments across the UK have made undertakings to cover all extra costs incurred by NHS providers during the coronavirus pandemic. This includes commitments made publicly by the Chancellor and NHS chief Simon Stevens.

We can only assume that these undertakings are sincere, but a satisfactory outcome is not yet guaranteed and the detail is still to be worked out.

Additional costs incurred by pharmacies will include costs relating to medicines procurement, employing extra staff and safeguarding their health by installing protective fittings, and many other financial outlays.

PSNC, CPW and CPS are in active discussions with government and NHS officials about this crucially important matter.  CPNI has already agreed an initial amount with the Northern Ireland Health Board, but further talks are ongoing in NI.

To help all our community pharmacy negotiators calculate the extra costs you are facing, the NPA is urgently surveying members. The survey will be open for a fortnight, but responses received before the end of Thursday this week will be incredibly useful.

Please help us to help you help your patients, by using a few minutes of your precious time to fill in the survey
