Community pharmacy NHS Flu Vaccination in Scotland payment

26 Aug 2020

Scottish Government circular PCA(P) (2020) 17 provides detail of nationally agreed payment levels for pharmacy contractors participating in local NHS flu vaccination programmes.

The responsibility for the Scottish Flu vaccination programme sits with local NHS Boards. Since flu vaccination is now not a core part of the GP contract in Scotland, and the Coronavirus Act 2020 enables pharmacists to provide immunisations, it is expected that many NHS Boards will look to utilise their community pharmacy networks to support flu vaccination.  Payments for contractors participating in the flu programme have been nationally agreed as a one off participation fee of £250 and £8.27 per vaccination thereafter. Reimbursement for NHS use of any private stock of flu vaccine will be agreed nationally.

NHS Boards may plan to use community pharmacists with specific patient groups, or other criteria, or within sessional flu clinics.  Service level, reporting and stock agreements will be agreed with each local Pharmacy Health Board Committee.

Details of the Scottish flu immunisation programme is at CMO(2020)19.
