NHS Volunteer Responders – information for community pharmacies (England specific)

Volunteers can sign up to be part of the NHS Volunteer Responder group, which was initiated to help support highly vulnerable patients during the coronavirus pandemic, so that these patients can stay safe at home.
On signing up, the volunteers can choose what type of tasks they are willing to provide support with as well as how often they can provide such support (for example daily, weekly etc). All tasks available are non-clinical.
Volunteer’s must fit a specific criteria and must fulfil all of the following requirements:
- must be under 70-years-old
- must not be pregnant
- must not have any symptoms, for example, a cough or high temperature and no one in their household should either. They should overall be well and in good health. This includes not having a long-term condition which would make them vulnerable to coronavirus.

- Please note on 29th March 2020 the recruitment scheme was paused temporarily to process the initial applications. 750,000 applications were filled out. More information will follow soon.
Referrals for volunteer support can be made by community pharmacists via the NHS Volunteer Responders referrers’ portal.
