NPA SOP: COVID-19: NHS Medicines Delivery Service (Scotland) now available

27 Jan 2021

The NPA have published a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for use by Scottish NPA members with the new COVID-19:NHS Medicines Delivery Service

Scottish Government has commissioned a new Community Pharmacy NHS Medicines service, from 18 January 2021 until 31 March 2021, with the possibility of an extension beyond this. The NHS Medicines Delivery service will support the ‘Stay at Home’ message and will enable at risk patients to avoid unnecessary journeys to collect medicines. The service aims to support the pharmacy network manage the increase in patient demand for medicine deliveries that has come with the pandemic and will reduce coronavirus transmission points for vulnerable people and pharmacy teams.

The new NPA Standard Operating provides a template which Scottish NPA members can adapt for their own pharmacy procedures for the new service.  It includes an FAQ section and information on what to consider when providing a delivery service during the pandemic. If your pharmacy is new to providing deliveries please also see NPA Essential SOPs for SOP: Delivering pharmacy items – FMD version and SOP: Delivering Schedule 2 and 3 CD – FMD version which can be adapted for your new procedures during the pandemic.

Also, to support pharmacies identify patients who would benefit from prescription deliveries, the NPA has designed the Scottish pharmacy COVID-19 prescription delivery service poster.
