UK Government confirms the Life Assurance Scheme for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Team members

The NPA, alongside many other organisations, has been seeking clarity from Government on the Life Assurance Scheme and Pharmacy Team members. DHSC has now formally confirmed that community pharmacy team members are included within the same eligibility criteria that apply to any health care worker.
Community pharmacists and their staff are risking their lives every day to serve on the frontline alongside their colleagues across the NHS and social care, and should also be entitled to the same death in service benefits. Nothing will ever compensate for the loss of a loved one, however bereaved families of community pharmacy staff who sadly pass away will know that their Government acknowledge, value and appreciate the courage and dedication of their loved one as much as any other frontline worker in health and social care.
Gareth Jones, Head of Corporate Affairs at the NPA, welcomed the formal confirmation, saying “We’re pleased that this has now been formally clarified by Keith Ridge, which follows up the immediate reassurances we had to our inquiries through both formal and informal routes at the end of April. Community Pharmacists and their teams provide vital services on the NHS frontline and it is only right and fair that this is recognised in the Government’s Life Assurance Scheme for frontline NHS staff in England.”
