Every year in the UK around 23 million pre-filled injection pen devices are incinerated or sent to landfills, which is not sustainable and until now, there has not been a viable recycling alternative is a first-of-its-kind initiative that has been designed to address the challenge of recycling injection pen devices, used by people living with diabetes, obesity and growth disorders, that otherwise end up in landfills. The pilot initiative alone aims to recycle over 150,000 plastic pre-filled injection pen devices, ensuring over two tonnes of plastic materials is diverted from UK landfill. As part of the initiative, users will be able to recycle their empty pre-filled devices. Recycling can be done at participating community pharmacies. THAT’S WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP As a central point of care, community pharmacists like yours will be key to the success of PenCycle.
