Part of the Quality payments scheme, one of the eight quality criteria is ensuring that “80% of registered pharmacy professionals have to have achieved level 2 safeguarding status for children and vulnerable adults within the last 2 years”.

This applies to pharmacists and technicians, including locums

This can be claimed at both review points and is worth 5 points at each review (10 points in total) – potentially equating to a payment of £640.

NPA support

The two safeguarding resources available to members are:

Become level 2 trained

  1. NHS England refers pharmacy professionals to their local Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) for support in gaining suitable safeguarding training – the NPA has produced a list of all the CCG Local Safeguarding Leads
  2. The Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) provide a level 2 safeguarding course and assessment
  3. Health Education England has e-learning resources suitable to gain a level 2 safeguarding status
