Community Pharmacy Emergency Supply Pilot Service SOP
Resources to support members in Northern Ireland with the Community Pharmacy Emergency Supply Pilot Service.
The Emergency Supply Pilot Service in Northern Ireland which will be running in pharmacies in the Northern LCG area from 14 March for an initial period of six months.
The service is designed to :
Ensure that patients can access an urgent supply of their regular prescription medicines where they are unable to obtain a prescription, before they need to take their next dose.
Relieve pressure on OOHs medical services and emergency care services at times of high demand.
Ensure equity of access to medicines irrespective of the patient’s ability to pay.

SOP for the Discharge Medicine Review (DMR) service is to ensure that the service is carried out in a systematic way.
The Discharge Medicines Review (DMR) service is an Advanced Service which is designed to provide support to patients recently discharged into the community, in particular those who may have new medicines or changes to their existing medication. The service aims to reduce the risk of preventable medication errors reaching patients and the incidence of adverse drug events. In addition the service will support adherence with all of the patient’s prescribed medicines including newly prescribed medication. It is also intended that this service will reduce medicines-related readmissions to hospital and the volume of unwanted medicines inadvertently prescribed.
The key purpose for having a SOP for the DMR service is to ensure that the service is carried out in a systematic way in your pharmacy.…
Minor Ailments Scheme – NPA SOP launched for Northern Ireland
The NPA has produced a SOP for pharmacy teams providing the Minor Ailments Scheme in Northern Ireland.
The Pharmacy Services team has produced a standard operating procedure (SOP) for NPA members providing the Minor Ailments Service (MAS) in Northern Ireland.
The NPA welcomes The Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) announcement that the Community Pharmacy MAS Minor Ailments Service has been extended to include four additional treatment areas which include Acne Vulgaris, Haemorrhoids, Scabies and Verrucae. In addition, cold sores can no longer be treated under the MAS.
