The NPA regards this as a prompt to everyone in the health and social care system to move up a gear in terms of addressing health inequalities.
As part of the week, NPA hosted a webinar, delivered jointly with the UK Clinical Pharmacy Association.

This was a great opportunity to showcase the NPA’s ‘mission to tackle health inequalities’ - a declaration of intent which we published to coincide with Inclusive Pharmacy Practice Week.

On the NPA’s behalf, community pharmacist Reena Barai presented on the theme in her typically engaging style. One memorable piece of advice she shared was a form of words health care professionals might choose to use instead of “What’s the matter with you?” to open up a conversation with patients. “What matters to you?” might be the better question to ask, to unlock a full and truly inclusive dialogue.
We also thank NPA board member Nick Kaye for his expert chairing of the session.
On a related note, please be reminded that the NPA and the Centre for Research Equity at Oxford University have launched a partnership to widen participation in clinical research through community pharmacies.
One of the principal aims is to help ensure that people living in deprived communities and minority ethnic groups are properly represented in trials. NPA members wishing to express an interest in recruiting patients and customers into clinical trials should email [email protected].
