This page guides you through the steps we recommend to set up a private ear health service in your pharmacy
Setting up private ear health services
A large number of pharmacies are already equipped and trained to assess, diagnose, and supply medication for Acute Otitis Media in children aged 1 to 17 years through the Pharmacy First Service in England.
You can build on this existing expertise to further expand and enhance your services. Consider including adult infection and pain management, wax removal, and hearing health services to the ear health service provision.
Methods of delivery
Patient Group Directions (PGDs) - Pharmacists can supply prescription-only medicines under an approved PGD, enabling treatment of defined conditions without a GP prescription.
Independent Prescribing Pharmacists (IPPs) - Pharmacist Independent Prescribers can assess, diagnose, and prescribe autonomously within their scope of competence
