Bullying & Harassment
What is Bullying & Harassment?
Bullying is persistent, unwanted behaviour that causes harm, distress, or intimidation. It can take many forms, including verbal abuse, exclusion, spreading rumours, or physical aggression. Harassment is similar but often involves targeting someone based on characteristics such as race, gender, disability, religion, or sexual orientation.
Bullying and harassment can happen anywhere – in person, online, in the workplace, or within learning environments. As a pharmacy student working in a professional setting, you should never feel unsafe, disrespected, or undermined in your role.
How Might This Affect You as a Distance Learning Student?
As you balance your studies and work, you may encounter bullying from colleagues, managers, or even customers. This could take forms such as:
Being spoken to disrespectfully or unfairly treated at work
Exclusion from training opportunities or team discussions
Workplace jokes or ‘banter’ that feel personal or degrading
Online harassment, including inappropriate messages or cyberbullying
Pressure to participate in workplace culture that makes you uncomfortable
Experiencing bullying or harassment can impact your confidence, mental health, and academic progress, making it harder to focus on your learning and professional development.
