Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE)
What is Child Sexual Exploitation?
Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is a form of abuse where children or young people are manipulated, coerced, or forced into sexual activity in exchange for something such as money, gifts, or attention.
It can happen online or in person, and victims may not always recognise that they are being exploited.
Why this matters to students
As a pharmacy student working in the community, you may come into contact with young people who could be at risk. Warning signs may include:
Unexplained gifts, money, or new possessions
Sudden changes in behaviour or mood
Older individuals showing unusual interest in a young person
Frequent absences from school or home
Signs of distress, anxiety, or secrecy
What Can You Do?
Be aware – Recognise the signs of exploitation
Report concerns – Follow your workplace safeguarding procedures
Act quickly – If a child is at immediate risk, contact emergency services
Do not investigate – Pass concerns to the appropriate authorities
