Everything you need to know to provide advice and services on women’s health
Background
It is fitting for community pharmacy teams to get trained on women’s health topics so they are able to deliver services and confidently advise on these areas. As well as support staff, pharmacists do not always have the confidence and most up to date knowledge to feel empowered to do so, so this hub aims to enable easy access to short knowledge updates and resources to support this.
Women’s health encompasses a variety of health needs as well as age ranges as can be seen in Figure 1 (Source: DoHSC Women's health strategy for England 2022). This highlights the extent to which community pharmacies can help women access reliable advice and services and can prompt your pharmacy to engage in more NHS and Private services, where appropriate.
Some services that are related to women’s health that you may be able to provide in your pharmacy are:
Contraceptive services (NHS/private)
Period delay (private)
Period pain (private)
UTI (NHS/private)
Contraceptives
Menopause
Reproductive health
Emergency contraception
