In England more than 1,200 pharmacies have closed in the past decade, a legacy of many years of real terms cut. Despite additional funding this year, pharmacy funding still falls below independent estimates of costs. Yet there is huge potential for pharmacies to offer extended care in communities and take pressure from the wider NHS.

Pharmacies are a lifeline for millions . They dispense vital medication, they offer local healthcare advice – often saving lives when they spot serious health issues, they can identify and treat minor ailments and they know their local communities.
