Some of the complications of overweight and obesity-related conditions include:

• asthma
• cancer
• cardiovascular disease
• depression and anxiety
• hypertension
• type 2 diabetes and prediabetes
• sleep apnoea

Treatment and hospitalisation for such complications contribute to the economic burden on the NHS as well as the wider UK economy. These include lost earnings due to sickness, which is estimated to be up to £16 billion.

This hub was created as part of a collaborative working project between NPA and Novo Nordisk Ltd. The project aimed to support independent community pharmacies in delivering services to assist patients with weight management and obesity and ran from 2 December 2021 until 25th November 2022. All current materials available from the hub have been solely created by NPA and have not been seen or reviewed by Novo Nordisk Ltd
