Important actions required: Genotropin powder and solvent for injection 12mg box found with Novorapid Flexpen inside
26th May 2022
We have been made aware from a small number of pharmacy contractors that boxes of Genotropin powder and solvent for injection 12mg made by Pfizer Ltd actually contained Novorapid Flexpen made by Novo Nordisk Ltd.
Genotropin powder and solvent for injection and Novorapid Flexpen contain different active ingredients and have different therapeutic indications respectively, therefore, the potential level of harm as a result of administering the incorrect product to the patient can be potentially high.
Currently, we are aware of one affected batch of Genotropin powder and solvent for injection 12mg manufactured by Pfizer Ltd:
- Batch number: EM0914; Expiry date: 05/2023
At present although there is no official recall in place, we ask pharmacy teams to remain vigilant.
We are also seeking further clarification from relevant organisations and we will continue to keep you updated on this patient safety matter.
Recommended actions for pharmacy teams:
- Before dispensing, check the actual content of the packaging for all Genotropin powder and solvent for injection
- If the content is incorrect, please report it immediately to:
Please contact the Pharmacy Advice and Support team for further advice and support.
