This Principle is about minimising and managing risks including having clear accountabilities of the people involved in providing pharmacy services.
To comply with this Principle, you need to make sure that all processes and services within your pharmacy that pose a potential risk to patients and customers are identified, managed and reviewed.
It’s really important that the whole pharmacy team is aware of Principle 1 and what it involves. Everyone needs to have a clear understanding of their role and its limitations so they’re only doing tasks they’re qualified to do, and only in circumstances when it’s appropriate to do so.
For example, counter assistants should know what they can and cannot do when the responsible pharmacist (RP) is absent.
