Highlights from our first virtual Conference – July 2020

COVID-19 has demonstrated the essential and fundamental role of pharmacy, the time is right to plan for the future and achieve the greater recognition that pharmacy deserves.

At the NPA we are dedicated to making sure this year’s digital experience reflects the NPA conference you’ve come to know and love, from informative keynotes and deep-dive sessions to stories of leadership and inspiration. All for free. All from your own home or place of work.

A series of sessions were held during the week beginning Monday 13th July of which members were able to pick and choice their preferred topics.

We are delighted to welcome Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to give the keynote address. Matt will talk about the immense health challenges COVID-19 poses and the important work that community pharmacy has done as part of the NHS response. He will talk about some of the early learnings from the crisis, the changes in primary care and discuss what the NHS needs from the community pharmacy sector moving forward.

A presentation on the findings of the NPA-commissioned research which establishes the views of 1,000 members of the public, their opinions on COVID-19 and community pharmacy and provides recommendations for independent community pharmacy to consider in their restoration programme.

What did we learn about Community Pharmacy during COVID-19?

Community Pharmacy’s response to COVID-19 pandemic was immediate, professional and for many businesses will be game changing. This session is intended to showcase all the good work done by UK Community Pharmacy during March – June 2020. It is intended to show good practices but also give other health care professionals the change to reflect on the sector’s contribution.

COVID-19 and risk assessment requirements for at risk employees

NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) require individual risk assessments for at least staff in ‘at-risk’ groups – including Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff by 24 July 2020.  This session will include:
•  Setting the scene for risk assessments from the regulators perspective
•  The NPA’s support pack developed to enable you to complete this requirement, as well as answers to common queries
•  The legal position explained from an employment law and health and safety perspective
