The NPA offers Patient Group Directions (PGDs) to enable pharmacists to provide medicines and vaccines privately to support a wide range of patient groups and conditions. The vaccination training and PGDs are offered at very competitive rates on an extensive range of flu, travel, vaccination and oral/topical PGDs.
PGDs enable pharmacists to supply and administer specified medicines to pre-defined groups of patients without a prescription
Benefits to your business from offering PGDs:
- Increases your footfall and your revenue streams
- Drives repeat demand for your services
- Expands the range of services you can offer
- Provides the pharmacist with additional skill-set
- Improves the visibility of your business in the local community profile
- Develops your potential market
PGDs are good for your patients and customers as:
- Community pharmacies are highly accessible
- They have the assurance of being vaccinated by a trained, accredited and trusted front-line healthcare professional
- Your service is convenient – no appointment necessary
- You offer out of hours access due to extended opening hours
The PGD packages are suitable for any pharmacist wishing to support a wide range of patient groups and conditions.
The vaccination training is open to all healthcare professionals who, on completion of the training, can vaccinate patients via the appropriate legal routes, other than a PGD.
This year we are pleased to partner with ECG Training, who will enrol pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, take payment and deliver the online training and full practical training (if required) as well as certificates. ECG will also act as a one-stop shop by providing PGDs and PGD eTool services which come through their established relationship with Pharmadoctor. The training delivered includes:
a) Full practical face-to-face (F2F) training – which is required for all new vaccinators as well as anyone requiring triennial training.
ECG is also offering two Flu Express F2F training sessions for experienced and confident vaccinators – more details are available here.
b) Refresher (online) training – which is required for all individuals who are due for their yearly refresher training in between the triennial F2F training.
Online training will include information on where to access current guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE) and COVID specific vaccination information.
Visuals showing the NPA’s recommended training pathways can be viewed here. More details on what is covered in the different training sessions can be accessed from our dedicated PGD page here.
Pharmacists are required to complete a multiple-choice question assessment at the end of the online training.
