Pre-registration pharmacist

Job Description

Broadway Pharmacy, an innovative and forward thinking independent community pharmacy in Preston, has an exciting opportunity for two pre-reg pharmacists to join our award-winning team on a 12-month placement starting 1st August 2017. We are seeking confident individuals who are keen to learn and be challenged by the constantly evolving world of community pharmacy.

Broadway Pharmacy is a family run business in the heart of a local community and has been established for over 50 years. The pharmacy’s foundation and reputation is built on great customer service, knowledgeable experienced staff and a fantastic rapport with local doctor’s surgeries in the area. We were the first Healthy Living Pharmacy to be accredited in Central Lancashire, which shows a commitment to embrace change and provide the best patient service and outcomes possible. The pharmacy is committed to providing all clinical services commissioned including Medicines Use Reviews, New Medicines Service, Emergency Hormonal Contraception and Flu Vaccinations. We have three trained smoking cessation counsellors and operate an in-house smoking cessation clinic as well as providing an off-site service to the local college. In addition to this we provide a number of private services such as mole screening, health checks and weight loss support. Recently we have also set up a travel vaccination clinic instore and are always looking to provide new and innovative services.

As pharmacy moves towards a future where pharmacists are part of a wider integrated primary care team we are keen to provide our pre-regs with experience in a GP setting and are looking to include placements with local surgeries as part of our pre-reg programme. Recently we have successfully piloted one of our technicians working in a GP surgery in a medicines management capacity and we are in the process of expanding this to another surgery and progressing to including pharmacists in practice based roles.

The successful candidates will be given a challenging, varied and hands on training programme to cover all GPhC performance standards and leave them equipped to pursue a fulfilling career in community pharmacy. We have two full time pharmacists (Nottingham graduates) who will guide them through the programme and afford the time to prepare the candidate for the registration exam. The placement will allow individuals to spend time in all areas of pharmacy including counter experience, dispensary, care homes, services and an insight into the financials of managing a pharmacy. Study time and external training days will be included in the Pre-Reg programme along with time at local GP surgeries to get the full scope of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team.

Testimonial from our 2016/17 pre reg pharmacist Oliver Haywood:

“Broadway pharmacy is a busy pharmacy that is very service orientated, as a pre reg there I have been exposed to a large number of advanced, enhanced and private services such as mole scanning and private health checks. Due to their focus on services they employ a second pharmacist, this not only gives time for the second pharmacist to deliver services but also allows time for you as your pre reg tutor.

I’ve found having two tutors to be of great benefit due to the time they are able to give in support of the pre reg. I have also found the tutor’s backgrounds to complement each other, this being due to one coming from a hospital background and one who has been in community for all of their career. This allows for a greater breadth of experience and knowledge to come together in one pre reg training. During my time at Broadway I have found all of the staff to be incredible welcoming and all supportive in my role as pre reg there. I am provided with protected time to study each week and enrolled onto an external pre reg training course alongside been allowed to attend a conferences on works time and also a number of other training days. I would highly recommend Broadway pharmacy for your pre-registration year and if you have any queries regarding it I would be happy to answer them direct at ojhaywood@gmail.com.”
