Job Description

Following a hugely successful pilot in 21/22 we have just secured funding to be able to offer two really exciting trainee pharmacist opportunities in central Bath starting in August 2023.

The training year will be split into:

  • 6 months in Lifestyle Pharmacy – an award winning and dynamic Community Pharmacy in central Bath which has a great track record for training and offering advanced services. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in a valued local service with a small and dedicated team, committed to supporting and making a real difference to members the local community. Trainees will experience a wide range of services, including responding to symptoms, dispensing NHS and Private prescriptions and advising on medication provision, flu and travel vaccination services, provision of emergency contraception, smoking cessation services and a drug misuse service. Trainees will also gain be able to develop confidence and competence in provision of the Commmunity Pharmacy Consultation Service and New medicines Service
  • 2 months at the Royal United Hospital, Bath developing consultation skills, medicines reconciliation competency, answering medicines information queries, working in the aseptic unit and experiencing clinical ward work
  • 4 months at Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board – learning about the wider healthcare system, completing medicines safety audits, assisting the communications team with public health messaging, assisting with the Covid vaccination programme, PCN and out of hours pharmacist shadowing
  • As a system we are really proud of the training that we have developed in conjunction with our trainees both past and present. Trainees attend the regional HEE study days alongside other hospital and community colleagues. We also offer all BSW trainees the opportunity to network with several system wide training offers. We run monthly BSW training sessions where we cover clinical topics with presenters from both primary and secondary care, as well as covering non typical topics such as leadership and the GP contract. In addition we also provide clinical case studies monthly and set bi weekly calculation questions as part of the ongoing exam preparation
  • Our programme has been proven to develop well rounded pharmacists who understand the whole healthcare system and patient journey. Our trainees are seen as a real asset to the teams they work in as they use their system knowledge and wide professional network to help benefit all services. We are looking for trainees to join our team who are self motivated, keen to learn and who can take on the responsibility of being a valued member of the team.
