May Measurement Month returns

18 Apr 2019

Members who offer blood pressure checks are being urged to take part in May Measurement Month.

The campaign seeks to raise global awareness of hypertension and create the evidence base to inform and influence policy makers.

Now in its third year the campaign measured the blood pressure of 1.2m people in 80 countries, in 2017, and 1.5m people in 89 countries, in 2018.

It has identified more than 500,000 people with uncontrolled hypertension.

The UK effort is being coordinated by the British and Irish Hypertension Society.

MMM chief investigator and former Society president, Professor Neil Poulter, said:

“As the largest ever synchronised standardised multinational screening of any cardiovascular risk factor, we are going a long way to meet our objectives to raise global awareness of the issues surrounding raised blood pressure.”

Digital campaign resources and a toolkit, which includes the required methodology, are available at www.maymeasure.com

Pharmacies can register their interest here and will be contacted with a code to enable them to record their data after they have registered.
