Pharmacy bodies organise joint roundtable events at party conferences

20 Sep 2019

Four organisations representing the entire community pharmacy sector are meeting with parliamentarians and other key stakeholders at this year’s party conference to explore the role of community pharmacy in preventing ill health.

The Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIM), the Company Chemists’ Association (CCA), the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) are jointly organising roundtable events at the Labour and Conservative party conferences. They take place on 23 September in Brighton and 30 September in Manchester.

The event will focus on prevention, particularly the government’s Green Paper for prevention, which focuses on the importance of local providers working together to promote good health. This joint event will bring together patient groups, other healthcare professions, parliamentarians and other stakeholders. The organisers will brief guests on the track record of community pharmacy in preventing ill health, before discussing ways in which the sector can overcome any challenges that we face in delivering the prevention agenda.

A report summarising the discussions and any next steps that will be taken will be published after both events have taken place.
